Belvedere is arguably one of Marin County’s more famous cities, largely because it is the county’s, and indeed one of the nation’s, more affluent communities. Belvedere originally consisted of two islands – the densely forested Belvedere Island and the smaller Corinthian Island. In the 1950’s, the islands were permanently linked to the mainland of Tiburon peninsula by filling in the narrow straits and creating the Belvedere lagoon. Sensing a good thing, homes were quickly built along the lagoon’s long, narrow fingers, offering a different lifestyle than island homes, but still uniquely Belvedere.
