Marin County, California

Just north across the Golden Gate Bridge rise the magnificent headlands of Marin County. Minutes from downtown San Francisco, Marin faces Pacific Ocean to the west and San Francisco Bay to the east.  Marin County is where you’ll find dozens of dramatic beaches and lakes, redwood forests, rolling, oak-covered grasslands and the dominating presence of legendary Mt. Tamalpais. There’s one word for the natural environment: breathtaking!

Marin County lies between cosmopolitan San Francisco and the popular destinations of the Napa and Sonoma Wine Country. Of the 520 square miles of land in Marin, over 114,400 acres are composed of federal, state, and county parkland, and county open space. The climate is decidedly Mediterranean, making it possible to enjoy Marin’s incredible variety of outdoor attractions the year ‘round. Marin has a bit of everything— hiking, cycling, surfing, fishing, bird watching, windsurfing, kayaking, golf and tennis.

But nature and the great outdoors aren’t the only reason to fall in love with Marin. There are film festivals, music, and art, dramatic architecture like the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Civic Center, and a Farmer’s Market that attracts an array of vendors selling California-grown organic fruits and vegetables, artisan cheeses, and fresh seafood. What about dining? With the availability of some of the world’s best wines, there are numerous reasons for the variety and quality of Marin’s plentiful restaurants. Come and enjoy Marin; it’s a great place to visit. Better yet, think about moving and enjoying this unique place year round!
