San Rafael
San
Rafael is the central city
of Marin County, the center of commerce and
government and the county’s oldest city as well. Located along the county's busy
urban corridor, like the rest of central Marin, it is blessed with a favorable
climate. It’s a large city by Marin standards, with homes spread across the
flatlands near the bay to the slopes of half a dozen ridges with views of the
water. Aside from the historical center, San Rafael
extends north to the unincorporated areas of Terra Linda, Lucas Valley
and Marinwood. Of all the cities in Marin, San Rafael provides the largest variety
of homes in the entire county; clusters of early 20th century
bungalows, ranch-style and Cape Cod-like subdivisions from the mid 60’s,
Marin’s small but highly reguarded community of Eichler homes, and the
magnificent diversity of luxury homes along and above Point San Pedro Road.
Noteworthy among its many attractions are
the Mission San Rafael Arcangel, the landmark Frank Lloyd Wright Civic Center,
the close-off-the-streets Thursday night Farmer’s Market and the annual 4th
of July County Fair.
